Child Participation

Children influencing issues affecting their lives, by speaking out or taking action in partnership with adults we guess, somewhat relate to child participation. GCK aims at empowering children in order to actively engage them in the process of development, by assuring that the organization has integrated child participation in its programming cycle. An increase in community participation in the project area have created opportunities for children to influence the decisions affecting their lives and an increase in the number of children in project communities who are influencing the processes of decision making in programs. We aim to integrate children into all steps of the process and make them fully partake in all decisions concerning them. We have also been working to enhance their leadership skills through the leadership processes of child clubs.

The organization has been implementing several innovative approaches in this direction. It has taken initiative in the formation of children’s clubs and youth clubs, children and youth theatre groups, capacity building through leadership and life-skills training, organizing camps, summer camps, etc. are the major activities being implemented. The focus is purely on ensuring that the children should enjoy rather than taking it as a class-room activity. We are also promoting Child Resource Centres and Child Parliament (Bal Sansad).
