CARE ABOUT PEOPLE
Welcome to Gram Chetna Kendra
Gram Chetna Kendra, which translates to Village Awareness Center, was formed in 1986 by a group of socially conscious individuals under the leadership of Mr. Om Prakash Sharma. Recognizing the immense needs of Rajasthan’s rural poor, this group decided to combine their unique knowledge, talents, skills and experience to address the pressing issues facing individuals. Therefore, in 1989, the organization was registered as a voluntary, non-governmental organization under the Societies Registration Act and began formal operations from their campus, which is located in the heart of the project area in the village of Khedi Milak.
This area is located 55km from the state capital, Jaipur, in Sambhar Block of Jaipur District. Before, GCK began working in the area; it had remained virtually untouched by mainstream development efforts, from both national and international sources. As a result, the population faced considerable economic challenges stemming from the lack of education, health care and government services, as well as the persistence of traditional beliefs and unequalpower structures.

Water is the elixir of life. Sanitation is essential for good health and dignity. Both so basic that most of us take them for granted. Yet, both so neglected that thousands die for lack of them. We dig tube wells, provide water tankers and hand pumps, to provide clean drinking water, especially in the drought prone areas of Rajasthan. Sanitation is also a major concern for us. We do all we can to ensure that hygienic standards are adhered to; that lives are led with ease, dignity and comfort.
Livelihood Promotion in selected villages of Bassi of Jaipur District in Rajasthan- Primary beneficiaries are smallholder farmers with an actual or potential commercial outlook, brought together through collective action towards achieving economies of scale, e.g. farmer associations, women self help groups, livestock herders, as well as farmer producer organizations. Project activities will be undertaken in five selected villages, so-called cluster.
Women Empowerment
Seeing the present trend of development sector, it is very essential to empower the women. Women plays an important role among running the family program and also see the welfare, apart from domestic works women also helps in agriculture and animal husbandry work. In rural sector most of the families depend on farming and animal husbandry, while men go for farming/labour work, entire families’ responsibility comes on her shoulder. The good future of children also depend on her, therefore, now we can’t ignore the women for a long time, we have to make her literate and organize them through SHG’s so that they can also manage their day to day economic program and can help in raising the family income. Hence, GCK focused to ship their economic development to self reliance. Through promotion of savings and Credit groups and building their capacity, additional employed opportunities created by income generation activities.
The Vision
We intend for unrelenting efforts for a catalytically initiation of people based development intervention to ensure just and equal opportunities, minimum basic essentials to all with dignified and quality of life for rural masses.
The Mission
GCK's mission is to bring awareness among rural populace through democratic means so as to empower them and help them in gaining control over all factors that affect their individual life and community at large.
Goal
GCK's goal is to initiate a catalytic intervention that will encourage the rural population to take the advancement of their lives into their own hands through ensuring socio-economic self-reliance for the deprived and poverty stricken rural masses.
